If you grew up in the ’80s or ’90s, you’ve probably spent hours flipping through Where’s Wally? books. Those busy, bustling pages filled with tiny characters, wild scenes, trying to find the elusive Wally himself in his trademark red-and-white striped shirt.

For me, those books are pure nostalgia. I remember sitting cross-legged on the floor, squinting and scanning, that delicious mix of frustration and triumph when finally spotting Wally hiding in plain sight. It was more than a game, it was a journey through a world bursting with stories, details, and endless discovery.

From Op Shop Treasures to Art Studio Inspiration

Recently, I stumbled upon a few old Where’s Wally books at an op shop, and that unmistakable sense of adventure sparked a new idea. What if I could bring a bit of that playful search-and-find magic into my own artwork?

I am often hiding little bits and pieces in the background of my artworks, from collected bits of patterned tissue paper, to used postage stamps from decades past, to patterns and prints I have made with my Gelli plate.

That’s how my latest collection was born—original pieces that invite you to slow down, look closely, and find the hidden fragments of those very books, tucked subtly among the lines. It’s a little treasure hunt for adults and kids alike, blending nostalgia with fresh creative expression.

Why Where’s Wally? Still Matters

There’s something timeless about Where’s Wally?—a reminder to slow down, focus, and find joy in the little things. In today’s fast-paced world, that message feels more important than ever. My art celebrates this spirit of mindfulness, inviting you to pause, explore, and lose yourself in the details.

This project has been deeply personal for me, connecting my childhood memories to my present creative journey. Each piece is a tribute to the hours spent searching those crowded scenes and the simple thrill of discovery. It’s a reminder that art can be playful, meaningful, and a bridge across time.

Ready to Go on a Treasure Hunt?

If you love a good challenge (or just want to dive into some colourful, detailed art), I invite you to explore the collection. See if you can spot the hidden Where’s Wally snippets woven into the lines.

And maybe, like me, you’ll find a little bit of your own childhood tucked inside.
